Latest Kid Read "Pippi Longstocking"

Keeping a goal to read to my kids through the years has really brought us closer. As I can't say they always learn from what I tell, ask, beg them to do, they very much learn from the lessons of characters in books. Often these book characters and their lessons are ingrained in their minds much much longer and much more thoroughly than if I were to talk to them about a concept.

This book, Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, wasn't so much a character building book as it was a fun, think-out-of-the-box type book. Pippi is always doing the most strange and exciting things that kept the kids on their toes to hear more. What it teaches in a very nondirect way is that its okay to be different. It makes the world a much more exciting place. Don't we all wish we had Pippi Longstocking as a friend growing up? Thinking outside of the norm for finding things to do around the house or making the most of a seemingly dull situation is what Pippi does best and we can all learn from.
